Bouregreg Institute: Conference on socio economic impact of large infrastructure projects

The Bouregreg Institute and the Institute CDG held Tuesday, March 29, 2011, a conference under the theme “Socio-Economic Impact of Large Infrastructure Projects”. Three structural projects were presented at the meeting: Hôpital du Bouregreg, the proposed development of the Lagoon Marchica Med and Haliopolis project. Speakers emphasized not only the impact and economic and social benefits of these sites in the immediate, but also their role in the socio-cultural transformation.

Located on the bank of Salé, the Bouregreg Hospital is part of the development program of the Bouregreg Valley and aims to create a health excellence to reduce health disparities between the capital and the city of Salé (Rabat against 35 hospitals in 12 Salé). This health facility with a capacity of 330 beds will be equipped with 70 doctors and over 300 nurses.

The Marchica Med Lagoon the development project is itself a structuring project that contributes to the economic and social development of the Oriental region, including the Grand Nador. From a total investment of 46 billion DHS, the real estate program includes residential, hotels, recreational areas and a golf academy. Spread over the period 2009-2025, the project eventually will generate some 80,000 new jobs and will position Marchica lagoon as a preferred tourist destination in the Mediterranean.

Finally, Haliopolis Park, which covers an investment of 6.6 billion DHS, is part of the plan Halieutis and Emergence. This project involves the creation of a regional fisheries cluster based on an innovative concept of new generation of integrated and diversified industrial parks in terms of services. Launched in 2009 and to be completed in 2017 in four tranches, the park will create 20,000 additional jobs in the Agadir region.
